DONT WALK MUSIC
DONT WALK Music targets the auditory artists of St Andrews - songwriters, DJs, producers, musicians alike. We seek to create a conglomeration of sounds that will together result in a St Andrean Music Group. As the school year began, the DW Music recruited individuals who demonstrated talent and a passion for music and believed that they could add a truly unique element to the DWM family. Those chosen have had the opportunity to showcase their talents regularly throughout the year at events, led by James Peel, as well as feature on the debut DW Music Extended Play, directed by Folayinka Coker and Executive Produced by Ferdinand Vermersch and Leo Clayton, due to release over the academic next year. This year's concept behind DW Music 2017 is 'NUMB3RS'. Numbers are essentially a mental concept that we use to quantify and structure the world that we inhabit. In terms of music, numbers can represent anything from BMP and the genre of music to the length of the track and the sampling rate. Throughout the year DW Music will produce a series of events based around this numerical framework. These could be themed around anything from an era/genre of music (Hip'Hop 2000's) to a postal code (647 / 212). Join us as we begin our journey through this concept and start our series at... 1. So far we’ve seen events such as 016, 070 and 060 representing various era’s of music. We hope to continue with this theme and develop new ideas throughout the coming year, along with the development of the DWM EP.
While many of you will have hopefully become familiar with the DJ’s of Don’t Walk Music, there is a more elusive aspect to the music group that we’d like to introduce you all to. This team, comprising of seven university students, varies from producers and instrumentalist to vocalists. Over the course of the Year, the Second half of the DWM team will be focusing on the upcoming ‘Don’t Walk Extended Playlist’. Much like the show, the EP will also be based around a general theme: The Seasons. The aim of the team will be to take this theme, and using seasonal samples, associated artworks, visuals and videography, ideas drawn from the theme, festive vocal shouts (and anything else we can think of); create an EP that will represent the changing nuances of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The basis behind the theme is to represent the changes and the “seasons” of lifestyle that we all go through. Expressing this through a musical platform using samples, voicemails and other audio pieces, we aim to create an audio landscape painting a year-long perspective of change and development. Singles are due to release by the end of semester one with the EP launch date coming soon! Check out the DWM Soundcloud for the DJ’s and Producers takes on current music trends and some new playlist to get you in the seasonal mood.
DWM EP : SZNS
This years EP is based around the theme of Seasonal Change "SZNS". The Production team have taken this idea and used seasonal samples, associated artworks, visuals and associated ideas drawn from the theme, festive vocal shouts (and anything else we can think of) to create an EP that will represent the changing nuances of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Our music is made to represent the changes and the “seasons” of lifestyle that we all go through. Expressing this through a musical platform using musical talents, we aim to have created an audio landscape painting a year-long perspective of change and development.
